Welcome, Haere Mai, Hwan-Yeong to Gordonton School ‘the best rural school in the country!’  We are a decile 9, full primary school, with 12 classrooms and roll of around 250+ students.

Our school has been providing quality learning for the students in the greater Gordonton area for the past 125 years. Today our motto of “The Best Today for the Best Tomorrow” incorporates the original mantra that has been associated with our school ‘Do Your Best.’

Our motto is the basis for everything that occurs at our school with the vision of having confident, connected, actively involved life long learners. There is clearly an expectation on our students to take an active role in their learning through the positive choices that they make.

Our school has three guiding rights, allied with three equally important responsibilities which is formative in all behaviour management.

  • The right to learn and to ensure others are able to learn.
  • The right to be treated with respect and your responsibility to respect others.
  • The right to feel safeand, by your words and actions, it is your responsibility to ensure others are safe.

Literacy and Numeracy are a key component of the mornings at our school, with the morning time table being divided into 3 one hour blocks for reading, writing and mathematics learning. The other curriculum areas – science, social sciences, technology, the arts, health and physical education are covered through integrated inquiry learning topics.

Our school also provides other learning opportunities to develop the holistic child.  Such activities include school team hockey, football, netball, touch rugby, inter-school cross country, swimming, athletics, speeches, musical instrument tuition. A bi-annual school wide production is a highlight.

Our Board of Trustees supports our students’ learning by providing up to date electronic devices and thousands of dollars each year for learning resources. We also employ a number of teacher aides who work along side our teachers to assist with any student learning needs.

Our school welcomes International Students (we are a signatory to the International Code of Practice) and our Board employs a qualified teacher/tutor to assist these students and other English Second Language students with their English language development

We sincerely hope your association with Gordonton School will be a long, enjoyable and rewarding one and we look forward to playing a significant role in your child’s education today and in the future.
